Who we are

foni

The first thing you lose when you live in fear and insecurity is your “Voice” (Foni in Greek).

The greatest challenge for every society is how to protect, or rather, how to shield its children from becoming victims of sexual abuse and exploitation. The National Strategy is the mechanism through which we, as a State and as a society, will give a Voice to children and vulnerable young people, helping them to break their silence.

When the Europe-wide campaign against child sexual abuse and exploitation “One in Five” was first launched in 2010, its slogan was “Break the Silence”. The silence has indeed, to some extent, been broken, resulting in the decision of the Council of Ministers that the State should take the lead in the next step. The National Strategy is the tool by which we, as a State and as a society, will mature and educate ourselves in taking that next step.

It will become the “Voice” of prevention, but also treatment, through knowledge and education.

It will become the “Voice” of discussion and acknowledgment of the problem.

It will give a “Voice” to all those who want to participate and all those involved in children's lives: Parents, doctors, carers, teachers, social workers, counsellors, psychologists, police officers, lawyers, sports coaches and many more. Their “Voice” will be heard through education in schools, on the internet, inside the homes, in all the media; In every sector and in every institution.

It will give victims back their “Voice” and, through it, their dignity and the means to move forward, free from the traumatic experience of the past. They will now know that they can ask questions, express their pain, describe their experiences, ask for help.

Mission

The National Strategy Implementation Council, “Foni” is responsible for coordinating all actions aimed at preventing and combatting sexual abuse and exploitation of children and child pornography. These are among the most heinous crimes that can be committed in a society.

The Council was established under the Law on the Implementation of the National Strategy for Combatting Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children and Child Pornography (Law 112 (I) / 2017).
