The Implementation Council of the National Strategy for Combatting Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children and Child Pornography is composed of:

(a) A Chairperson, of known integrity and standing, appointed by the President of the Republic.
(b) Nine members, of known integrity and standing, appointed by the Council of Ministers from a list of individuals, representing both the public service and the non-governmental sector.

The first Council was appointed on 1 March 2018. Currently its members are:

Responsibilities

The Council has, inter alia, the following responsibilities and duties:

(1) It undertakes:

(A) The strategic planning of the National Strategy for Combatting Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children and Child Pornography, based on European and other international strategies and the promotion, monitoring, evaluation and control of its implementation:

The National Strategy for Combatting Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children and Child Pornography is approved by the Council of Ministers, to which it is submitted by the Chairperson of the Committee.

(B) The responsibility to monitor the implementation of the activities required to be carried out in order to combat sexual abuse and exploitation of children and child pornography by the various services or departments of both the governmental and non-governmental sectors.

(C) To make recommendations to the Committee, in cooperation therewith, for the adoption of legislative and other measures, in line with European and international policies and strategies.

(D) To provide accurate information and raise public awareness on the problem of sexual abuse and exploitation of children and child pornography in the Republic, in a comprehensive and evidence-based manner.

(E) To monitor, encourage, coordinate and evaluate all relevant programs, from both the governmental and non-governmental sectors, with due regard to the following:

(i) All prevention programs prepared by the governmental or the non-governmental sector are submitted to the Council for further processing, evaluation and approval;
(ii) All prevention programs prepared by the governmental sector are evaluated and approved by the Council;
(iii) The Council establishes the methodological approach as well as the respective guidelines and operational specifications, identifying the objectives and activities of each program, based on the National Strategy for Combatting Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children and Child Pornography;
(iv) The Council may provide financial grants to prevention programs;

(F) To develop partnerships with respective organizations in all areas of its competence;

(G) To design and promote specific training programs aiming to educate officers of both the governmental and non-governmental sectors and volunteers on sexual abuse and exploitation of children and child pornography.
