A meeting was held today, 2 August 2018, between the Minister of Education and Culture and the Chairperson and Members of Council Foni, which is entrusted with the implementation, monitoring and assessment of the National Strategy for Combatting Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children and Child Pornography.
The meeting discussed the implementation of sexual education and the challenges faced by the Ministry. The implementation of sexual education is part of the National Strategy and is considered the most important action of primary prevention aimed to protect children from sexual abuse and exploitation.
Based on specific decisions taken at the meeting, the Ministry of Education and Culture will proceed without delay to the implementation of its commitments under the National Strategy.
If we truly wish to help protect our children from sexual abuse, we must equip them with the right tools. We must equip them with the knowledge and skills, attitudes and values necessary to enable them to make informed decisions, recognize harmful and undesirable behaviors and protect themselves.
We, the Council FONIl, will contribute to both the planning and implementation of the decisions aiming to effectively protect and empower our children.
